Saps II-Predicted Mortality in Ventilated Patients with Respiratory Acinetobacter baumannii Alone vs. Negative Culture
نویسنده
چکیده
Results: Between 43 patients with A. baumannii [mean age (SD): 47 (18.5) yrs; 65% male] and 95 matched patients with negative cultures [51 (17.5); 53%], median risks of hospital mortality were not significant different but the median (IQR25-75) length of total hospital stay [19 (11-32) vs. 14 (9-21) days, p=0.022] and ICU [8 (4-19) vs. 7 (3-9), p=0.010] were significantly longer in A. baumannii group. Such findings occur irrespective of whether the underlying lungs were diseased or not and whether the isolates were resistant (except for cefepime-resistance).

Acinetobacter baumannii nosocomial pneumonia: is the outcome more favorable in non-ventilated than ventilated patients?
BACKGROUND Acinetobacter baumannii hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) is associated with a high mortality worldwide. Non-ventilated patients with HAP (NVHAP) caused by nosocomial pathogens are reported to have a more favorable outcome than those with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The current study was designed to determine whether bacteremic patients with A. baumannii NVHAP also have a ...
متن کاملPrognostic factors associated with mortality of drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii ventilator-associated pneumonia
BACKGROUND Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii is associated with high mortality in critically ill patients. We identified the prognostic factors of 30-day mortality in patients with VAP caused by drug-resistant A. baumannii and compared survival outcomes among multidrug-resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and pandrug-resistant (P...
متن کاملShould we treat patients with only one set of positive blood cultures for extensively drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii the same as multiple sets?
Acinetobacter species are not considered skin commensals and under-treatment is an overriding concern when caring for critically-ill patients who are mostly at risk of extensively drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (XDRAB) infections. Hence even a single blood culture yielding XDRAB will tend to prompt intervention. However, field observations suggest that patients with single-positive bloo...
متن کاملLaboratory confirmed bloodstream infection aetiology in an intensive care unit: eight years study.
To evaluate laboratory confirmed bloodstream infection (LC-BSI) aetiology we carried out a prospective study in the general 13 bed ICU of the teaching hospital Policlinico Umberto I in Rome. According to CDC case definitions for LC-BSI, all patients admitted >48h between 2000-2007 to ICU were included. Risk factors (i.e. age, sex, SAPS II), invasive procedures (i.e. endotracheal intubation, vas...
متن کاملEmergence of Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in the Intensive Care Unit in Sohag University Hospital, Egypt
At present, one of the most serious issues in medicine is increasing resistance of bacterial pathogens to antimicrobial agents. This fact is associated with higher mortality and morbidity rates, prolonged hospital stays and increased treatmentrelated costs (Senkyrikova et al., 2013). Such negative trends have been observed in Acinetobacter baumannii which is responsible for a variety of nosocom...
